Not playing to the crowd
When you write for a living, there are challenges. It’s worse when you actually depend on basically having fans but you’re not so large that you can pretty much do whatever you want.
JK Rowling has outraged a lot of people, but she can keep on doing what she’s doing because she doesn’t notice it financially.
I’m not remotely there.
The reason this matters is that I’ve been thinking about how difficult it is not to play to the audience, especially when I could ultimately benefit more from doing so.
I don’t talk politics here, but that’s what I do discuss for a living. As a result, I tend to write about outrage and I sometimes write while outraged.
